Behind the workshops and projects of the Quand on Danse programme are faces and stories. Mélodie Dehard's story is one woven with movement and sincerity.
‘I've been dancing ever since I can remember,’ she says. As a child, she discovered folk dancing before moving on to classical ballet, almost naturally. She never imagined that one day, dancing would become her profession.
‘I never imagined that I would make dancing my career, let alone become a teacher. Life just put it in my path.’
While her studies left her unsatisfied, her body opened up another path for her. That of transmission, connection, and sensitivity.
‘I realised that dance had helped me through important moments in my life: adolescence, the transition to adulthood, the turmoil of everyday life. It wasn't just about learning a movement, it was much deeper than that.’
Today, Mélodie runs adapted dance classes in the Racour and Landenne nursing homes (CHC Health Group), offering residents a space to come together, reinvent themselves and experience the joy of being fully alive.
When asked to describe dance in three words, her answer is immediate: sharing, wellbeing and alignment between the mind, body and heart.
Outside of our programme, Mélodie also runs mind-body workshops and dance therapy classes for those who wish to explore movement as a path to self-discovery.
